Resources

This list is not meant to be a comprehensive resource list for Autism. It is a short list of resources that I recommend. Some of these may be less well known.

  • BrainChild Nutritionals
This is a family-centered company with the sole focus of providing excellent liquid supplements for families with children on The Spectrum. They offer liquid vitamin and mineral supplements, and products for candida, and detoxification and chelation.
  • Nourishing Hope
A book by Julie Matthews, a Certified Nutrition Consultant
Subtitled Nutrition Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Why Diet Can Help and a Holistic Approach to Implementation.
A compendium of seven years clinical nutrition experience and intense research. It outlines all of the major autism diets including GFCF, SCD, Body Ecology, Feingold, low oxalate diet, Weston A. Price, and more. The book provides a comprehensive understanding of malfunctioning metabolic processes and explains the impact of nutrition on the biochemistry of children with autism. Detailed steps for dietary intervention are included and a roadmap for getting started, evolving, and customizing the varied approaches. The book contains practical insight garnered through parents’ anecdotal experience with nutrition & diet intervention - even for picky eaters! While your there check out her other Autism resources.

  • A Reason for Hope
A book and web site written by Daniel Hawthorne. Daniel is autistic, and a clear and compelling writer. Check out his web site and buy his book if you want to understand more about autism.

Major resources that you probably already know about.

  • Autism Speaks
They are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder.
  • Autism Research Institute (ARI)
Established in 1967, ARI is primarily devoted to conducting research, and to disseminating the results of research, on the triggers of autism and on methods of diagnosing and treating autism. They provide research-based information to parents and professionals around the world. They are the sponsors of the Defeat Autism Now! project.

And while you're here, listen to the interview with Dr. John Wilson on Autism.
