| John Wilson's Interview on Autism
In essence, he believes that children who develop autism are not "hard-wired" for this disease, a belief held by conventional physicians. Rather, susceptible children develop this disease when they are exposed to certain environmental influences. There are certainly genetic susceptibilities in these children that can trigger autism when they are exposed to a variety of environmental triggers. Included in these triggers is mercury (thimerosal, a mercury preservative in childhood vaccinations) combined with a genetic inability to excrete this toxic metal. Autistic children frequently have significant allergies to foods, inhalants, and environmental chemicals. They often have very significant digestive problems, particularly severe diarrhea. Approximately half of autistic children have an inheritable metabolic impairment in their body's utilization of vitamin B-12 and Folic Acid, known as methylation defects. About Dr. Wilson
Dr. Wilson received his medical education from the University of Minnesota, followed by Family Practice Residency in West Virginia. He served as clinical associate professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School and University of Minnesota-Duluth School of Medicine. He brought with him 14 years of experience in rural Family Practice when he joined the Medical Center in 1991, along with expertise in chelation, environmental, allergic and preventive medicine. He has extensive training and a special interest in Neural Therapy. He lectures nationally to physicians' organizations and has an interest in the politics of medicine.
