Greeting from Liz
Hi I’m Dr. Liz Lipski, and I’m happy you have decided to visit this resource for autistic children.
This website offers you tools so that you can implement a gluten and casein free diet with your child, and also incorporate Splash to reap even greater benefits.
The most encouraging area for improvement with autism is in the area of dietary change, specifically a gluten and casein free diet. According to the Autism Research Institute, 2/3 of over 3000 children on the spectrum have dramatic improvements on a gluten and casein free diet.
In mid 2007 I was approached by the Nutricia Corporation because they were receiving unexpected feedback about one of their products. According to numerous reports from parents and doctors, autistic children who began drinking Nutricia’s Splash product were responding in very positive ways. They approached me because of my expertise in Clinical Nutrition and my experience in children’s nutrition.
The Splash product was originally formulated for children with digestive conditions such as constipation, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, reflux, heartburn, and children who are picky eaters because their esophagus or stomach were so inflamed that it hurt to eat. It’s a drink box that contains a full complement of already digested protein and fatty acids, along with vitamins and minerals. Nutricia may have been surprised at the effect of Splash on autistic children, but I wasn’t. 70% of children on the autistic spectrum have digestive issues, and many have malabsorption and nutritional deficiencies.
Because Splash was not formulated with autistic children in mind, your healthcare professional should carefully review the list of ingredients to avoid potential difficulties with food sensitivities. Splash is probably not appropriate for all autistic children, but anecdotal reports indicate it may be helpful for many.
Research into the effects of Splash on autism is underway and the first results will be reported in mid 2008. I created this website for parents and healthcare professionals who don’t wish to wait for research results before trying Splash and a gluten and-casein free diet.
I hope this website is helpful to you in deciding if this approach is appropriate to try with your child. |
